The following is a statement from Shawn Roderick, spokesman for the Collins for Senator campaign:
A U.S. Secret Service agent was shot in Washington, D.C. last night and is thankfully going to be ok.
The Secret Service is funded through the Department of Homeland Security, the very department responsible for protecting our country and employing the officers who put their lives on the line every day.
Yet some, like Graham Platner and Janet Mills, have criticized efforts to fund DHS, including Senator Collins’ vote to keep it operating, as part of a broader political agenda.
That has real consequences.
During partisan funding lapses, these same law enforcement officers can be forced to work without pay while still facing life-threatening risks.
We need leaders focused on results: keeping government funded and standing behind the men and women who protect this country.
