Sen. Susan Collins welcomed a Maine teen, along with more than 170 Breakthrough T1D Children’s Congress delegates, to Capitol Hill on Wednesday morning. Ruby Whitmore, a 16-year-old from Old Town, testified before the Appropriations Committee, telling her story and advocating for more funding toward Type 1 diabetes research. Collins says stories like these inspired her to start the U.S. Senate Diabetes Caucus in 1997.
