We should reelect Sen. Susan Collins this November because she gets things done for her constituents. When my now-deceased, veteran father needed help, she delivered for my family.
His energy assistance benefits from the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) were denied because he received home medical care from the American Veterans Care Connection (AVCC), a program that cares for aging veterans. Because of a technicality with the AVCC, his income appeared larger than it was, which put him over the threshold for receiving help with his heating costs.
I called Sen. Collins and submitted a letter explaining the situation. Within two weeks the funding was restored and my father could heat his house. Sen. Collins respects Maine’s veterans. She presented my father with a U.S. flag that had flown over the Capitol in recognition of his 100th birthday in 2021.
If anyone has an issue, they can reach out to Sen. Collins, and she will respond with care and competence. To me, that’s what true representation looks like.
