Collins pushes for mercury monitoring program

WELLS, Maine — U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, was in town Monday to highlight her proposed legislation to establish a national mercury monitoring program.

Portland Phoenix: Senator Susan Collins ignored thousands of letters delivered to her office beseeching her to allow gays in the military, and polls suggesting that as many as 79 percent of Americans believe gays should be able to serve openly in the armed forces.

“To put this global issue into a local perspective, the science that this center supports can ensure that the only thing that obscures the view from the top of Cadillac Mountain is fog, not smog,” Collins said. “And that the rocky coast we all cherish will not become the bottom of the ocean.”
